Hi, I'm Brett Dow. I am a Forensic And Technical Artist specializing in data translation, complex rigging, and highly accurate recreations.
My foundation as an artist was forged in forensic animation—a field where 3D art must be scientifically accurate, legally defensible, and capable of clearly explaining complex events. Working both on the scene and in the office alongside lawyers and subject-matter experts, I have tackled everything from medical animations and ballistic analysis to police shootings, workplace accidents, and environmental flood simulations.
To bring these cases to life, I routinely process and translate massive amounts of real-world data. I convert laser scans, drone flights, and DICOM medical files into highly accurate, large-scale 3D environments and models. Because reference footage is rarely perfect, I have extensive experience camera-matching and tracking over virtually any media, including body cams, security footage, GoPros, and professional camera rigs.
The demands of this work require robust, flexible tools. I engineered a custom rigging system for vehicles that easily transfers to a wide variety of car models while guaranteeing accurate speed and distance calculations. My animation pipeline includes cleaning up character rigs, building IK systems for bikes and bipeds, and recording, editing, and seamlessly blending raw motion capture data with hand-keyed animation. When a unique forensic problem arises, I am frequently the lead in building one-off tools to solve it.
Beyond 3D, my workflow extends into full post-production. I storyboard, composite, and build custom After Effects rigs to finalize complex courtroom presentations, ensuring the translation of data between software packages is seamless, optimized, and visually undeniable.
